It was Saturday morning, June 15, 2024; time to go to Porsche breakfast! Usually club members would converge at Pegah’s restaurant near 87th St. and I-35 at 7 AM. But this Saturday was different. It was the 50th anniversary of KCRPCA’s Saturday morning breakfast, but this week the club had been invited to celebrate the event at Porsche KC’s dealership in Merriam, KS.
Their beautiful and large service area was the spot for an “enhanced” buffet breakfast attended by 225 club members and family. It was such a great event, as this was a chance to catch up and reconnect with many friends and find out which Porsche they drove to breakfast. Commemorative tall silver mugs with the special event logo imprinted were given out to the first 100 Porsches to arrive.
What a spectrum of Porsches that showed up! Many were familiar, but some were new to the club. Almost every style of Porsche was represented. KCR members tend to appreciate all generations within their own era, as this club has all categories; Preservation, Restoration, Modification, even a track prepped Porsche sometimes!
The record number of Porsches at KCR Saturday breakfast in the modern era has been 65 this April. That morning was a perfect morning to drive your Porsche and many members came out. It coincided with the newly started Ladies’ Breakfast on the first Saturday of each month. Thanks to Cindy Quintana for initiating this inclusive activity that has boosted womens’ participation not just for breakfast, but also for many of our other events.
Saturday morning breakfast is where camaraderie begins and flourishes; where acquaintances become friends. We are resource helpers for each other in this complex yet awesome Porsche universe, especially for the older models.
It has been 50 years of our KCR Saturday morning breakfast. We are there EVERY Saturday; rain, snow, and those perfect mornings that driving a Porsche brings that big smile! Apparently KCRPCA is the only region that has done this consistently EVERY Saturday. KCR is certainly full of enthusiasts!
What a spectacle each breakfast morning is as Porsches start rolling into the parking area! We have been “chasing the sunrise”, to quote Stan Thorne, our Past President and former Zone 10 representative.
A Big “Thank you” to Robert Hellweg and Mike Diaz of Porsche KC for their gracious hosting of this event and their support for many years!
Drive your Porsche to a great destination full of Porsches! It’s time for breakfast!
